A Sunny Field of Sunflowers
Today, we took a trip to see a gorgeous field of sunflowers in full bloom that we had read about in the newspaper.
We packed up the car with our Springer Spaniel, our daughter, the two of us -and with cameras in tow- traveled about an hour to a little town East of Tampa, Florida called Dover.
For the second year in a row, a strawberry farmer there has mixed in sunflower seeds to the clay peas he usually plants between strawberry crops.
What results is a beautiful rolling field of sunny, yellow flowers for everyone to see!
We took our Springer Spaniel, Sofie, because she is our calm dog, and we thought we might be able to let her run in the fields, but once there, we realized that she could pretty much get lost forever in this incredible mass of sunflowers, and decided to keep her on leash.I knew we'd be able to snap some pictures of her, where our other dog, Guinevere, would be spinning like a top! (Guinevere is not the stepchild she appears to be, missing out out on the pictures -she just never stops moving long enough to get photographed!)
Here are some of the pictures that my daughter and I took during our outing. We hope you will enjoy them, especially the ones of our dog, Sofie, surrounded by these bright, pretty sunflowers. She was really happy there, chasing bees, trying to eat the sunflower, and hoping to burrow under the masses of foliage. There was lots of tail-wagging to be shared by all!
What a summer treat we had with this little trip today to check out this incredible field of sunflowers that felt like it went on forever!
